Abstract
The culture at JCB, from its conception, has been epitomised by the Company motto which is ´Jamais Content´ and as such, in the 1980s, when times were very good and all-time records were being broken, JCB were still very conscious of its weaknesses and areas it needed to address. Here, the author outlines such a study at JCB, and describes how, as they analysed their current performance, they were aware that teamwork and problem-solving had to be improved and the tremendous latent potential of their staff had to be tapped even further. Initially, their thoughts were to address these two areas of problem-solving and teambuilding with extensive training. However it soon became apparent that these were only a part of an overall quality issue which needed attention.
