Abstract
Strategic planning of urban agglomeration is a process which permits the articulation of the initiatives of public and private stakeholders which seek synergies for the development of the urban agglomeration. This exploratory study uses AHP to investigate the performance on strategic planning of urban agglomeration, based upon the connation, principles and indexes, to correctly distinguish the fourth planning sketches of urban agglomerations in Jiangxi province, China. The results show that it is to the extend viable for AHP to evaluate the strategic planning performance, which not only can make the complex planning system to be quantitatively compared, but also interpret the effectiveness with ideas clear and simple application. However, there are some limitations for AHP to build the evaluated indexes and to calculate weight. Therefore, it must be improved with evaluation indicators and targets if the model is applied, accordingly.
