Abstract
The fiber amplifier sources (FAS), specified for fiber optical gyroscopes, are limited by the low output power and narrow spectrum width. A construction of FAS with double pump sources is advanced. With the construction, the output spectrum of the FAS contains both of the forward and backward amplified spontaneous emissions, which cannot be actualized in normal FAS constructions. Both of the FAS output power and the spectrum width can be improved. The theory analysis is given at first, and the simulation results show that the best erbium doped fiber length is 20 m and the performances of the FAS are suitable for FOG. Meanwhile the flatness of the spectrum can be improved without an optical filter. The experiment results accord with the simulations. By adopting proper forward and backward pump power, the spectrum width and the output power achieve 40 nm and 12 mW with the construction advanced, respectively.
