  • Abstract
The Tianshenqiao hydroelectric power station is located in the Guangxi Province, China. Its ultimate installed capacity will be 2520 MW (6/spl times/220 MW +4/spl times/300 MW). The Tianshenqiao to Guangdong HVDC transmission line is the second DC line to be constructed in China. It will operate by 1996. The DC line is about 960 km in length and transfers 1800 MW of power to Guangdong through the DC line. This paper describes the results of the study carried out to design the power modulator for the Tianshenqiao to Guangdong HVDC transmission system. It shows how the transient stability limit can be increased by power modulation on HVDC systems.<>
