Abstract
A novel full fledged equivalent circuit for simple analysis of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) is developed. It is capable of explaining SRM operation in all modes, such as (a) with and without saturation, (b) continuous and discontinuous conduction, (c) operation in all four quadrants. Previous attempts in this direction can be shown to be special cases of this comprehensive equivalent circuit. Furthermore, this equivalent circuit could be integrated with that of the ´inverter´ to optimize the drive as a single unit consisting of the SRM and inverter. Finally its merits are highlighted.<>
