Abstract
A new method using an FEC technique is proposed to enhance the ability of consecutive cell loss compensation due to buffer overflow in ATM networks. In our design the overhead cells are reduced, and the coding/decoding delays are minimized. The performance comparison between the proposed method and cell regeneration on VP (CREG-VP) is analyzed, with the computer simulation study showing the new method achieving a significant improvement in the average cell loss rate
