Abstract
High penetration of renewable resources threatens to increase requirements for power system regulation services even as conventional and controllable resources are displaced. Recent FERC orders for “MW Mile” or “Pay for Performance” may increase the costs for those services. Automatic Generation Control processes and algorithms need to adapt to these changes so as to effectively provide adequate system performance at best cost.
