  • Abstract
The paper proposes a new topology of STATCOM that is capable of supplying AC and DC loads in 3-phase 4-wire distribution systems. In this, the authors utilize the method of instantaneous symmetrical components to extract the compensator reference currents that are then tracked in a hysteresis band current control mode. A suitable state space model of the STATCOM is derived. Based on this model, a single cycle control strategy is proposed and is shown to compensate for the drift in capacitor voltages due to DC components of load currents. The operation of the compensator has been verified through MATLAB simulation and detailed simulation results are given
