Abstract
The implementation of dense rail traffic on parallel running 15 kV AC and 750 V DC railway lines very close to office buildings, banks and shopping centres with sensitive information technology and computer systems have required a novel planning and design approach to achieve electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and to tackle risks associated with power system borne electromagnetic interference (EMI). After about 18 months of operation without any incidences concerning EMI it is concluded that the originally specified level of EMC has been achieved. This paper presents the planning and design approach which led to the implementation of the EMC measures on the North-South-Railway-Link (NSRL) in the centre of Berlin.
