Abstract
A new principle of transformer differential protection is presented in this paper. By comparing the voltage on the source side and the differential current in a specific time interval. An internal fault in a transformer can be discriminated. The differential protection scheme based on the new principle is able to clear the internal fault very quickly (within about 20 ms) and be affected by CT saturation
