Abstract
We have developed an optical disk system whose storage capacity and data transfer rate are 22 GB and 35 Mbps, respectively, by using a proto-type pickup with a GaN laser diode as a light source. Measured jitter value of 8.1% at the areal recording density of 16.5 Gbit/in/sup 2/ proves this system to be practical.
