Abstract
The determination of the behaviour of a wire antenna in a known impressed field is a fundamental problem of applied electromagnetics. The authors propose a moment method using polynomial and finite trigonometric series basis functions which gives reasonable and stable results even with very closely spaced parallel wires. The results are in general agreement with those of Smith (1972) (who analysed a somewhat different structure). It was found that the variations of the surface current distribution over the wire antenna are heavily dependent on the average current flowing into the wire and the method of coupling to the antenna. The modelling of surface current distribution in such detail is essential for highly-resonant structures dominated by conductor loss, such as superconducting antennas
