Abstract
Novel, broadband, multi-way impedance transforming power dividers and combiners, suitable for GaAs monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) fabrication, are described. The combiners operate over bandwidths in excess of an octave and can provide large impedance level transformations. They are especially relevant to wideband power amplifiers as they are capable of handling several watts of power. A set of designs for the 6-18 GHz frequency band has been established. Design principles, 3 dimensional field analysis of the physical layouts and practical results from successful circuits used in broadband power amplifier MMICs are presented.
