Abstract
The authors present an explicit Whitney element time-domain method for 2-D problems. A single-matrix formulation is derived to optimize both the CPU time and computer memory requirement. They have also shown that the additional resources required by the Whitney technique are only a third of those required by the rectangular FDTD. The superior modeling flexibility provided by the Whitney FDTD, however, outweighs the slight increases in CPU and memory requirements.
