Abstract
This paper considers the use of an artificial transmission line, rather than a true transmission line for the provision of the interactive region of an electro-optic modulator on material such as Lithium Niobate. The advantage is that equality of phase velocity of optical and microwave modulating signal can be achieved. Thus the bandwidth performance is limited by loss considerations. Using published modulator loss figures a bandwidth of 64 GHz is predicted.
