Abstract
Based on the work of Smith and Bomar (1988), an alterative state-space direct form structure of 2D digital systems is presented in this paper. Some properties of the covariance matrix K and the noise matrix W of the direct form structures are discussed. An example is given to demonstrate the differences between these two direct form structures. The corresponding optimized structures computed from the both structures are also studied in terms of the unit roundoff noise and the computational efficiency
