  • Abstract
Today, the importance of the clinker cooler for the efficiency of the kiln process is generally known. The special challenge in cooler design is to combine aspects like plating, aeration, grate line design, grate support and other mechanical aspects into a complete technical solution, offering maximum mechanical and thermal performance. The specific challenges of the cooling process are described and technical solutions to meet these with modern cooler design are illustrated. On the example of a fictitious 5000 mt/d clinker cooler, its design features, operating parameters as well as electrical and mechanical equipment is presented. Furthermore, the influence of clinker size distribution on the cooling process is presented in form of results of a computer simulation program
