Abstract
In mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET), broadcasting is used intensively for path discovery. Minimizing redundant rebroadcasts and time latency during re-broadcast can considerably improve network performance and node connectivity. In this paper we propose a Zone-based Routing Protocol with Parallel Collision Guidance Broadcasting (ZCG) for MANET. The network is divided into contiguous zones lead by the most reliable and capable nodes, called zone leaders, that are identified by a zone construction protocol. Routing is established using a new parallel collision guidance broadcasting technique which is initiated by the zone leaders for routing within and between zones. Through simulation results we demonstrate that ZCG provides fast routing and a reduction in control overheads in comparison with a typical reactive routing protocol (AODV).
