Abstract
A 2×3 convolution mask that is capable of detecting edges of digital images with single-pixel resolution is introduced. The mask is a cyclic ring of integers modulo 7. Test images indicate that, for low-resolution applications, the gain in sensitivity provides improved edge detection over Sobel edge detection. The mask is evaluated with various forms of noise (additive Gaussian and multiplicative exponentially distributed) and demonstrates a higher degree of sensitivity to noise than a Sobel technique
