Abstract
Instant Messaging [IM] is an important way to communicate all over the world. MSN1 is the main IM software operated by Microsoft currently in more than 50 countries and QQ is the main IM software operated by TENCENT in China. Their performances are different in China. They have different target customers, different user base, and different functions of IM software. This paper focuses on the different ways for MSN and QQ to develop in China. It also explores why QQ success has happened so rapidly.
