Abstract
Logging is an important and commonly-used approach to improving energy efficiency and performance of storage systems. Reliability is one of the most important metrics to evaluate the storage systems. However, reliability modeling of energy-efficient logging architectures based on RAID10 systems have not yet been explored much. In this paper, we model the reliability of two typical energy efficient logging architectures based on RAID10 system, named dedicated logging and rotated logging, with a continuous-time markov chain. We propose the rules of the state and transition probability of both dedicated logging and rotated logging consisting of different pairs of mirrored data disks. Comparison results demonstrate that the MTTDL of rotated logging architecture is much larger than that of dedicated logging architecture.
