  • Abstract
Network survivability has become part of SDH network requirements, because service interruptions (as a result of high-speed SDH system failure) are more serious than in existing networks and are not affordable from a business perspective. At present, an SDH transport network is currently under construction in China, but survivability of this network was not bought to the network planer/operators´s full attention. In this paper, we propose preliminary survivability strategies for the Chinese SDH transport network. The national network is divided into three sub-networks (partitioning based on geographical dispositions): backbone sub-network, regional sub-network, and access sub-network. Several appropriate candidate survivable SDH architectures are analyzed to be used for each sub-network to achieve end-to-end circuit or whole network survivability. Finally, the network survivability management system is presented, which complies with the TMN concept to specify the survivability management functions
