Abstract
We developed a computer-based learning tool that is an Interactive Learning Object (ILO) for protein synthesis, specifically for eukaryotic organisms. Two (2) modules were developed, each for DNA transcription and protein translation, respectively. The ILO modules were designed according to the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) learning object standard. Using the Multimedia Educational Resources for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT) subject categories, in a scale of 5.0, the ILO obtained mean ratings of 3.9 for Reusability, 4.0 for Quality of Interactivity, and 3.8 for Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool across three (3) student-rater groups, namely: college students biology major, college students non-biology major, and high school students. Moreover, the Quality of Interactivity category showed statistical differences in mean ratings, which suggests that the ILO modules possessed truly interactive multimedia qualities. Overall, the developed ILO got a mean rating of approximately 4.0, which means "very good overall" in the MERLOT rating scale and which further shows that it complies with the standard in developing reusable learning objects.
