Abstract
Most recent applications of the radio frequency identification (RFID) system require a stable and efficient system performance. In particular, the baseband decoder in the RFID receiver plays a significant role and determines most of the system performance. In practice, the existence of the unpredictable distortion and frequency variation in the return link leads to an important challenge in the decoder design. In this paper, a decoder structure which employs a matched filter is proposed to reduce the signal distortion in AWGN environment. The maximum-likelihood (ML) symbol synchronization algorithm is also presented to eliminate the frequency variation. The simulation results show significant performance improvements in bit-error rate (BER) compared with the conventional decoder using zero-crossing method.
