Abstract
The Qinghai-Tibet railroad is the highest plateau railroad in the world. Constructing such a railroad is a great challenge for the Chinese railroad constructors and permafrost scientists. As a support for achieving this task, a GIS based modeling platform, which is also called the ´digital roadbed´, is being built presently. This platform will help to solve the following problems: management of a huge amount of multisource geographical and engineering data, management of a variety of scientific and engineering models, emulation and three-dimensional visualization. Aside from the objectives above, the expansibility of system, that is, the seamless integration of common functions in the system was paid great attention as well.
