Abstract
Defected Ground Structure (DGS) suppresses the surface waves in microstrip antenna arrays. It reduces the mutual coupling between array elements and hence eliminates the scan blindness. Trial and error approach has been the only solution to DGS design. In this paper, a model based on sensitivity analysis is developed for DGS. Consequently, an efficient design procedure that drastically reduces the number of simulations is presented.
