Abstract
A new formulation for modeling the transient thermal behavior of arbitrarily shaped metallic waveguide discontinuities such as irises, posts and furcations is presented. Three modes of heat transfer are investigated: conduction, convection and radiation. To verify the formulation a number of practical components have been analyzed. The computed results are compared with the predicted wall temperature of straight waveguide sections. Good agreement is obtained for all the cases.
