Abstract
We discuss the design consideration for terrestrial in-line optical amplifier systems and dispersion accommodation technologies for 10 Gb/s optical transmission systems. We also present high-speed devices such as optical modulators, photodetectors, and the electronics for 10 Gb/s operation. Further, we demonstrate 160 Gb/s (sixteen 10 Gb/s) transmission over a non-dispersion-shifted fiber to show the potential for increasing the transmission capacity by wavelength division multiplexing technology
