Abstract
Results are presented on a 20-GHz 60-W traveling wave tube (TWT) with improved efficiency and nonlinearity. Helix taper and a three-stage-plus-spike collector improved the overall efficiency to up to 44%. The electronic efficiency was 14-15%, and the nonlinear phase shift was less than 43 degrees . It is concluded that the tube can compete with the conventional 12-GHz satellite traveling wave tube.<>
