Abstract
The defects such as partial discharge (PD) and metallic particles in a SF6 gas insulated switchgear (GIS) apparatus initiate acoustic waves which can be detected using an accelerometer or acoustic emission sensor placed outside the GIS enclosure. In this paper the acoustic diagnostic technique for partial discharge and metallic particles in GIS are presented. The experimental investigation and acoustic signals from various defects in GIS are also discussed
