Abstract
A Transverse Bilateral Helical (TBH) antenna with parasitic element for bandwidth enhancement is presented. A parasitic helical structure with a smaller radius is placed within the TBH antenna to obtain a second resonance close to the main antenna´s resonance for an increased bandwidth. The new structure´s dimensions are chosen to have the same ka=0.42 value with the unloaded TBH antenna. Antenna structure is modeled and simulated by HFSS©. Measurement results indicate that an enhanced VSWR 6:1 bandwidth of 131MHz is obtained using lower dielectric constant and loss tangent core material. In addition, the input impedances for each of the resonances are higher than the original TBH antenna input impedance, thus minimizing the need for input matching network.
