Abstract
File transfer performances in a high-speed backbone token ring are studied in this paper. Two token holding strategies, namely the single and the exhaustive service disciplines, are used for packet transmission. An M/G/1 vacation model is employed in obtaining expressions of file transfer delays in both schemes. The average file transfer delays of the two service schemes are compared for both balanced and unbalanced traffics. The results can be used to analyze the performance of FDDI backbones
