Abstract
This paper reviews the application of field programmable gate array (FPGA) design methodology to industrial drives. The advances in FPGA technology have been extraordinary. Numerous industrial applications such as power control or automotive appliances require high speed, very large number of components, abundance of available design sources, ready to-use intellectual properly. This paper starts with an overview of FPGA technology development, followed by a presentation of design methodologies, development tools, including the use of portable hardware description languages (HDLs) and system level design tool. In this paper, we are presenting the various case studies to illustrate the contribution and limits of an FPGA implementation in industrial drives.
