Abstract
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are growing worldwide and new technologies are naturally being part of them. Wireless communication systems are widely used in ITS applications requiring short and long range information interchange useful to prevent accidents, plan a route, collect tolls, navigate over the internet, etc. Basically, there are two important applications of short range wireless communication systems on ITS: communications within the vehicle and communications from the road infrastructure to a local facility. Due to his spreading and low cost, Bluetooth (BT) systems are interesting for the developers of ITS applications using short range wireless communications. This paper describes a development platform for the design of BT capable wireless sensors useful in ITS applications.
