  • Abstract
There are many critical conditions that may occur which need to be handled properly. Being prepared and knowing how to react ahead of time could prevent a situation from becoming an emergency. Nowadays, many hospitals use clinical information systems (CIS) to improve patient health care and information management. CIS retrieves and manages patient information such as patient administration, lab data and medications. We have designed and implemented a real-time clinical alerting system for respiratory care patients, which executes alert algorithms depending on the criticality of the patient´s respiratory problems. The patient is first monitored using a sensing system, the signal is processed to show the respiration pattern. When an alert condition on a specific patient is detected, the system notices the doctors in-charge with a programmed text in their mobile phones. With this functionality, up to-date information is provided for Doctor´s use in judging the patient´s condition and making treatment decisions instantaneously.
