  • Abstract
    This paper describes a short distance single-mode optical fiber data transmission system, which is constructed using an AO mode space frequency modulator, in which an edge-emitting LED is used as a light source. The output frequency responses for the 0th and 1st order beams from the AO mode space frequency modulator were flat over the frequency range of DC to 3.5 MHz when a squarewave frequency modulation (SWFM) was accomplished. When 12 channels of SSB data modulated the squarewave carrier at a frequency of 2.5 MHz, the obtained SWFM signal was transmitted over a distance of 5 km through single-mode optical fibers
