Abstract
During permanent partial discharge monitoring of power transformers it will be necessary to include self checking methods in order to ensure satisfactory operation of the various measurement components. The present paper describes a device (simulator) which enables an overall assessment to be made by injecting ultrasonic and RF signals produced by an external high voltage source. Details of the simulator structure are presented and examples of its performance in the laboratory are reported. The prototype was also tested during a temporary installation in a large transformer
