Abstract
In high speed data bus, the passing token is consecutively passed along the logical ring by step 1, which is used to each station of the logical ring having messages to transmit. But when some stations in the logical ring have not messages to transmit, it is necessary for us to look for efficient scheme to reduce the overhead. Idle stations transmit the passing token. In this paper, we propose two modified token passing protocols of high speed data bus. In the modified protocols, the passing token can jump over idle stations to be passed along the logical ring by step P. In this paper, we discuss the operational process of the modified protocols in detail, analyze the mean message delay and the ring utilization, and compare the performance with the one of standard protocol in HSDB
