Abstract
A time-frequency estimator using the Wigner distribution and its derivatives is optimized for implementation on microprocessors with a RISC (reduced instruction set computer) architecture. General optimization considerations are developed at the algorithm level to optimize performance relative to both the RISC architecture and the Wigner estimator. The algorithm implementation is designed for maximum flexibility by allowing transformation to the time-frequency plane of the Wigner estimator given either time or frequency inputs
