Abstract
This paper presents the design and simulation of STATCOM to enhance the voltage stability of wind power system. Among all the renewable energy resources, wind energy is rapidly gaining interest of developed as well as developing countries. Due to the increase in demand of electrical energy and increase in environmental pollution the use of wind energy to meet the domestic and industrial power demand is essential and inevitable. The major concern involves in the wind power system is its uninterrupted operation. Voltage stability is the key issue in the uninterrupted operation of wind farm. This can be achieved by using the FACTS devices. Among the various FACTS devices Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) is used to enhance the voltage support to the grid during normal and contingency cases.
