Abstract
This paper presents a comparison between the limits of the ITU-T Recs G.826 and G.821 in a 5 GHz-32 QAM-155 Mbits/s (STM-1) radio system, to be implemented from Vitoria (ES) to Salvador (Brazil). This backbone is composed of 17 hops (with an average length of 54 km) near the coast, divided in four baseband sections. The results of this design is presented, comparing the G.821 criteria with the corresponding G.826 ones and it is shown that although there were some pessimist expectations to the compliance of the G.826 criteria, these limits are achieved without requiring very large infrastructure modification or hardware adaptations
