Abstract
This paper illustrates the use of empirical data to characterize received signal strength (RSS) within an indoor environment. The RSS covers both line-of-sight (LOS) area and non-LOS area. We performed a sufficient number of trials to ensure that the RSS data converges, and then analyzed the first and second order statistics of the RSS so that the characteristics of the shadowing and multi-path fading can be captured.
