Abstract
Osteoactivin(OA) is a protein found in bone and other tissues. However, the role of OA in bone formation and resorption has not been well-defined. The current study assessed the compositional and mechanical properties of long bones of OA mutant mice to further understanding of the role of OA. Data support the conclusion that lack of the OA protein results in increased bone formation, which is manifested as stronger, denser bones.
