Abstract
This paper proposes a two-phase switched reluctance drive that employs a voltage doubler rectifier circuit charging a split dc supply made up of two low value film capacitors. The proposed converter not only uses a single-switch per phase topology, but also eliminates the unreliable electrolytic capacitors present in conventional split dc supply converters. The operation of the circuit is described and novel control algorithms are presented to allow operation of the motor over a wide speed range despite the inevitable supply and motor frequency modulation of the dc link. The implementation of the control algorithms is achieved using a low cost 8-bit microcontroller.
