Abstract
To investigate the effect of electrical double layer (EDL) on the electrical current response of interdigitated electrodes (IDEs), we performed a finite element based computational simulation of the electrochemical kinetics and mass transport occurring at nano-scale IDEs. Results show the presence of the EDL affects the voltammetric response of nano-IDEs. This effect varies with the gap spacing in the IDEs, the charge valence of the reactant, and the concentration of supporting electrolyte due to the overlap of diffuse and diffusion layers as well as the overlap of the diffuse layers of the generator and collector.
