  • Abstract
    Discusses the requirements for computer modelling of ultra-high capacity nonlinear lightwave (optical soliton) systems. The computer model already gives predictions which are in good agreement with previously reported 20 Gbit/s 100 km nonlinear transmission experiments (I.W. Marshall et al. 1990). Simulation results are presented which suggest that the possibility of nonlinear transmission at rates upto at least 40 Gbit/s over distances of 2000 km, merits serious consideration
