Abstract
This paper investigates the saturation effect on synchronizing and damping torques of electromechanical oscillation modes. The oscillatory stability limit curves for constant terminal voltage are determined with and without saturation and compared with the machine capability curve, showing that saturation reduces the stability margin for large inductive loading. This result is important for correct tuning of power system stabilizers
