  • Abstract
The importance of frequency management within an HF radio system is now widely recognised. However, the importance of network management and its relationship with frequency and link management has been largely neglected. This paper concentrates on the performance improvements that can be realised when integration of these functions is achieved. It illustrates how distributed frequency management integrated with link and network. Management functions can be applied to a large, modern adaptive HF network (>100 nodes) where the interface to the environment, (e.g. the channel coding function), is implemented using DSP (digital signal processing) technology
