Abstract
Directional ocean wave spectra are important because they provide a quantitative analysis of the ocean surface. The use of HF radar as a remote sensing tool for the measurement of directional wave spectra has been shown to be feasible previously. HF radar is a particularly effective tool as it not only has excellent range (typically 150 km-200 km offshore), but also has excellent spatial, temporal and frequency resolution. In particular the excellent frequency resolution permits the analysis of directional wave spectra to an extremely fine degree. The paper describes progress that has been made in implementing algorithms to analyse the spectra in a machine automatic manner
