  • Abstract
Summary form only given. After we developed a cryogenic diode to produce very pure proton beam from hydrogen ice, one of the guiding principles to continue our experiments has been the finding of new research fields under the combination of the pulsed power technology and the cryogenic engineering. The results of intensive challenge following this line are shown in some papers in recent years. Along this direction, we also proposed the new scientific possibility of the cryogenic targets ablated by pulsed ion beams. This has been continued until now under the collaboration between Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and Tokyo Institute of Technology. We also started recently to design a new cryogenic diode to produce the pulsed medium-mass ion beams with higher intensity than the former one, under the same collaboration scheme. We are planning to install this diode into the RHEPP-1 pulsed power generator at SNL (Albuquerque) in the near future. The authors have also a dream of realizing the application of cryogenic technique to the huge project of the high energy Z-pinch including the associated diagnostics at SNL, although it is not so easy.
